Join the UCSF Fresno Surgery Department, the largest surgical training department in the San Joaquin Valley, and the Intentional Recruitment Coalition (IRC) for the 2024 Health Disparities Summit. This new symposium was created to improve care for certain disadvantaged populations who may be negatively impacted by language barriers, socioeconomic status, cultural divisions, and more. This program will address these gaps in care and guide providers in addressing this challenging topic. This program offers 3.5 hours of CME credit.

  • Health Disparities in Valve Aortic Stenosis and TAVR | Usman Javed, MD, Board Certified Cardiologist, The Heart Group
  • Pediatric and Adolescent Health Disparities in the Central Valley | John Zweifler, MD, Medical Consultant, Fresno Department of Public Health
  • Pipeline Programs | Katherine Flores, MD, UCSF Fresno, Community Health Partners
  • Alternative Practice Models by a Vascular Surgeon in an Underserved Community| Lyssa Ochoa, MD, President and CEO, San Antonio Vascular and Endovascular Clinic

  1. Become aware of the department of public health resources available for children, improving patient outcomes
  2. Learn and become more aware of pipeline programs for local students to pursue jobs in the healthcare industry, which will provide increased physician numbers in the Central Valley, improving patient outcomes
  3. Understand the uses of alternative practice models related to increased federal funding, which could improve patient care for lower socioeconomic populations
