“Almost 75% of Arizona high school students do not have a daily physical education class and almost 60% do not receive physical education at all.” `

~ Arizona’s Youth Risk Behavior Study

The Problem

The quote above paints a bad enough picture but consider too that elementary school kids don’t get much more and neither do their parents.  A lack of wellness leads to multiple problems in adulthood and with current trends many of the problems associated with aging are showing up in children.

· Most kids do not get the 60 minutes of daily exercise they need.

· Few adults get the 30 minutes they need.

· Most kids do not eat 5 servings of fruit and vegetables each day

· Too many of us don’t even sit at a table to eat lunch

· Type 2 diabetes rates have doubled and are on the rise

· Two-thirds of us are either overweight or obese

· Most kids will have used an illegal drug by the time the finish high school

· We are not healthy

Federal law requires most schools to have a wellness policy in place.  The problem is that in many schools even if such a policy exists it has not been put into action.  Our aim is to help you correct that.

Our Objective

Research shows that kids who are involved in sports are far less likely to get involved with drugs, abusive relationships or violence.  On the positive side they are healthier, more self confident and do better in school  The problem is that most kids lack the skills to succeed in most sports.

Most kids can’t hit a ball with a bat or put a ball through a hoop and pushing them in that direction only dooms them to failure.  Running however, is one sport at which any kid can succeed, even kids in wheelchairs.  With running success is not measured by winning or coming in first, second or third, it is measured by doing better than before.  Running farther or faster than the last time is a victory and victories make winners out of kids.
